The drive from Luxor to Hurghada is about 300 Kms. At first you drive along the fertile, green, lush farms which are actually on desert land but easily irrigated with water from the Nile. This is called the Nile Valley.
The green ends rather abruptly and miles and miles of desert take over. It is not like the Western Desert with the Great Sand Sea, but more like mountains without altitude. The rock formations are beautiful and ever changing.
The desert continues right to the Red Sea.
